The Election Commission (EC) has reversed its decision to deploy Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC) cadets at polling centres to assist with election duties during the parliamentary election and referendum.

The move came two days after the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) raised objections to the plan.

On Tuesday, the EC issued an amended directive, saying BNCC members will now be stationed only at centres where postal ballots are counted, with their role limited to maintaining discipline.

A letter outlining the decision was sent on Tuesday to the ministries of home affairs and defence.
